Consistency Attracts a Spirit

Starting with the words of Novelist Aldous Huxley, “Consistency is contrary to nature, contrary to life. The only completely consistent people are the dead.” It’s so hard to contest this because what other explanation would you give to so many people starting awesome things and not going through with it. Some even stop one week after inception.

Either it’s a workout routine, writing a paragraph a day, reading the weekly newsletter you subscribed to or uploading content on your blog; you’re mostly faced with laziness, procrastination and every other excuse available for not going back to continue whatever it is you started some time ago.

I’ve also been caught in this web a couple of times and I seldom think of the benefits that would come with me staying consistent but I couldn’t just get myself to do those things.

My friend, had just decided to embrace consistency and she was doing that with her Instagram page. I was reading through her posts on Instagram when I came across the phrase “consistency attracts a spirit.”

Continuous pondering on that phrase lead to a reality check for me and I tried to evaluate the things that I did consistently and the difference between when I started them and how far I’ve come with them. I came to a conclusion and sent a message to my friend immediately that I’ve found the spirit which consistency attract.

Consistency attracts improvement!

You can start something with little knowledge or without being perfect but staying consistent on that thing would help you improve over time.
It takes a lot of determination, focus and discipline to stay consistent. The ability to reject new tasks, responsibilities and duties when you’re not done with the current ones you’re working on also help you stay consistent on what you’re doing per time.

At the start of 2020 I made a decision to at least read a newsletter per week. There are so many that I could subscribe to, but for me to stay consistent, I decided to pick one (James Clear 3 in 1) which comes every Thursday and I’ve been able to stay consistent on it. Weeks I can’t read it on Thursday, I ensure to read it before the end of the week or before another one comes in.

I have this to share about consistency from James Clears' newsletter: a quote from Raymond Joseph Teller, “Sometimes magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect.”
You might want to read that quote again and understand that what we see and adore about people is just as a result of them spending time on it.

Clearly define what you want to do, and why you’re doing that which you’re doing. Write out the “why” and always visit it whenever the urge to quit or stop comes. I hope this also helps you with staying consistent.
